About Me

I come from Brunei, a country in Southeast Asia. I obtained my first degree, a Bachelor of Social Science, in law and psychology from Keele University in Staffordshire, England. I qualified as a barrister in England in 1990. I was an Advocate & Solicitor in Brunei for 27 years before relocating to Canada in July 2018. I had a good career in law and I wanted to try a different challenge in life. As I like working with people, I decided to pursue a career in counselling. I aim to help the clients turn their breakdown into breakthrough.

Education & Professional Associations

In 2006, I obtained my Master’s degree, a Master of Social Science (Counselling), from the University of South Australia. I am registered with the association of Clinical Counsellors (BC-ACC) as a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC).

Specializations

I specialize in solution-focused practice. I have worked with clients facing challenges such as establishing a healthy self-identity, couple relationship, parent-child relationship, communication, self-esteem, maintaining healthy boundaries, personal growth, stress management, coping with anxiety, managing depression, coming to term with grief, life transition, retirement, anger control, work-life balance, optimizing work performance, decision making, career planning, and inter-generational struggles (especially clients of Chinese descent or Southeast Asians).

Because I am from Southeast Asia and of Chinese descent, I am well acquainted with Southeast Asian Chinese Culture and the specific pressures that these cultures can sometimes bring to bear on individuals.

Counselling is very rewarding for me: I help my clients to find their own solutions, set goals, and map out a way to a happier tomorrow.

De-Stressing

I adore nature, and I like hiking in beautiful British Columbia. I cook to de-stress. While I am cooking, I pretend that I’m doing a cooking show. It is very therapeutic for me. I can guarantee that our sessions will be useful to you, and I assure that I will do my best. I assume that you will do your best too. You don’t have to face challenges by yourself. Get in touch with me and decide if you would like to work with me in the first free 20-minute consultation. Being proactive is a choice that you can make.

Languages

Fluency in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Taiwanese (Hokkian) and Malay. I can conduct counselling in any of these languages.
